ADOPT-A-PLOT: UNCOVER A STORY
Eight lives are waiting for someone to tell their story. Will you be that person?
Plot Map
Tucked into Franklin, Tennessee in Williamson County, this small family burial ground is home to Revolutionary War patriot Roger Mallory; Dr. Andrew Crockett Mallory; John Mallory, who once owned the land and other family members. Their stories, for the most part, have never been told.
The Adopt-A-Plot program changes that and invites the public to help preserve a historic burial ground while uncovering the stories of the individuals laid to rest at Mallory Cemetery. By adopting a plot, you take personal responsibility for one person's resting place and if you choose, for bringing their life story to light through research, biography and audio. Your work will be shared on our website, on social media and through a living audio walking tour of the cemetery.
This is preservation at its most personal. There are 8 plots currently available. Each one is waiting for someone who cares enough to claim it.
To Participate
Review the Plot Map
Browse the cemetery map and the profiles of each person available for adoption. Take your time, read their inscriptions, learn a little about who they were and see if one of them speaks to you.
Select and Adopt Your Plot
Choose the person whose plot you want to adopt and complete the simple checkout process. It's free to participate. Once you adopt, we'll send you a welcome email with your Research Guide and all the details you need to get started.
Begin Your Work
Whether you're diving into archives or showing up with a soft brush and cleaning solution, your work begins here. Research at your own pace. Visit the cemetery when you're ready. We're available to support you at every step.
Share the Story
When your research is complete, write a biography using our provided template and optionally record a short audio or video story for the walking tour. Submit your work to hello@preservemallorycemetery.org. Your contribution will be published on our website, shared on social media and preserved as part of the living record of Mallory Cemetery.

Each person buried at Mallory Cemetery lived a real life in this county, some for nearly a century. Below are the plots available for adoption. One is already claimed. Eight are waiting.
The People of Mallory Cemetery
Why It Matters
"Of the 33,000 cemeteries currently documented in Tennessee, there are about 1,000 small family burial grounds in Williamson County that are vulnerable and often lack the resources to be properly preserved."
— GRAHAM PERRY, TENNESSEE HISTORIC PRESERVATION PROGRAM SPECIALIST
Mallory Cemetery, home to a Revolutionary War patriot and listed on the Heritage Foundation of Williamson County's 2025 Sites to Save, is one of those 1,000 vulnerable sites. The physical preservation of this ground depends on donations, volunteers and sponsors. But the cultural preservation, keeping the stories of the people buried here alive, depends entirely on people like you.
When the biography you write is published, when your audio recording plays for a visitor walking the grounds, that person buried in the 1830s becomes real again. Their life matters again. And the community that surrounds this cemetery becomes richer for knowing them.
That's what the Adopt-A-Plot program does. That's what you can do.
Eight stories are waiting to be told.
